If you’re entertaining the idea of migrating from FRx to Management Reporter, here’s a laundry list of functionality, both what’s new and what’s missing.

If you want to migrate reports from FRx to Management Reporter, a migration tool exists today.
It doesn’t bring over everything, but then you wouldn’t really expect it to. I have lists at the bottom of this post of what comes over and what doesn’t. First, though, a couple of thoughts.
I heard lots of comments about ‘easy to migrate’. I didn’t really buy that. You should know that because Management Reporter is ‘dimension aware’, it could be a good bit of work to migrate over unless you’re on AX (which is also dimension aware). You will have to reselect accounts. It’s on my list to investigate. [click to continue…]
FRx’s replacement is called Management Reporter.
It is a part of the PerformancePoint Server (PPS), Microsoft’s player in the business intelligence (BI) space. Think ProClarity if you will.
I won’t really touch on PPS in this space other than to say that it works with operational data and financial data. It’s also pretty pricey for the midmarket. There’s an excellent recap at Mark Polino’s DynamicAccounting post on PerformancePoint.
Anyway, back to Management Reporter. The word is that it will be available as a standalone module, meaning you won’t be forced to purchase the entire PerformancePoint Server suite of products. Today, however, you must buy PerformancePoint to get Management Reporter. [click to continue…]
The initial news of FRx replacement by Management Reporter
Week before last, I attended Convergence, Microsoft Business Solution’s end user conference. Bottom line, I don’t have a ton of new information that I haven’t already conveyed in previous posts, but here’s what I do have.
As you may already know, FRx is being replaced by Management Reporter (a part of PerformancePoint Server). More on Management Reporter in a separate post.
So FRx as you know it now, version 6.7, is the final product. I’m getting conflicting information on this, but it sounds like there will be no more enhancements. [click to continue…]
Lately I’ve had more and more inquiries on using FRx with Dynamics GP Analytical Accounting.
Seems it’s being used more and more since its introduction a few years ago. While most of my posts apply to all of FRx’s ERPs, today’s post will apply only to GP, although the basic principles are exactly the same for other dimension-aware ERPs such as Dynamics AX and Dynamics NAV.
So this will be a brief (sort of) explanation of how to set up FRx to take advantage of the extra information tracked by dimensions. In essence, Analytical Accounting adds what are called ‘Dimensions’ to your existing account structure to enable you to track additional information. For instance, programs, events, and expense type. This post presumes that you have dimensions already set up in GP. [click to continue…]
